The MUX range offers 20 different module configurations, with channel counts from four to 48, bank counts from one to six, and single- or double-pole switching options, allowing switching solutions to be tailored to the requirements of test systems. The MUX variants utilize single- or double-slot width PXI modules, as required, with high-voltage signals connected via one or two front-panel-mounted D-type connectors, respectively. Pickering offers a full range of standard and custom cables, connectors, and breakouts compatible with the new family.

Ideal for high-voltage applications such as circuit board insulation testing, relay testing, semiconductor fault monitoring, and wire harness insulation testing, the range features high-quality ruthenium relays from our relay division, Pickering Electronics. These relays allow for an increase in the hot-switching capacity of existing ranges from 750 V to 1 kV, with cold switching also up to 1 kV. The instrumentation-grade miniature reed relays used in the design also ensure a long service life and excellent low-signal-level performance, with the added benefit of high density. Furthermore, all modules include RFI suppression circuitry to extend the life of the relay contacts in hot-switching applications and to control surges caused by high-voltage transients during cold switching. The suppressors also ensure safe operation when connected to a high-voltage source via cable assemblies that might otherwise generate transients or RFI problems.

Pickering's switching product manager, Steve Edwards, commented: "Available in a range of bank sizes with 1 or 2 poles and up to 48 channels, our new 4x-321 high-voltage multiplexer range offers twice the switching payload compared to existing Pickering or competitor PXI/PXIe products. The switcher's performance benefits from the use of high-quality reed relays from our relay division, Pickering Electronics, for hot- and cold-switching up to 1kV at 10W with a maximum carry current of 1.25A. Safety is also ensured by hardware interlocking."
The hardware interlocking, included across the range, can be used to prevent switch operation until the interlock signal is present or, conversely, as a "functional stop" to return all functional switches to their default unpowered state, protecting the test system and the operator. The interlock signal can also be daisy-chained between modules, allowing for independent or group operation.

The 4x-321 modules are compatible with Pickering's eBIRST test tools, which can be used for preventative maintenance testing to determine if relays are nearing the end of their service life. eBIRST also enables rapid fault location, minimizing system downtime. Each module includes a spare relay for easy on-site maintenance by the user.
The 4x-321 comes with drivers that support all popular software programming environments and operating systems. All standard products manufactured by Pickering Interfaces include a three-year warranty and guaranteed long-term product support.
