Developers will be able to investigate and optimize power consumption and take advantage of the ultra-low power capabilities of the MSP430 microcontrollers.
Power debugging provides software developers with information on how software implementation in an embedded system affects system-level power consumption. Since software controls the hardware, including peripheral drives, it also controls power consumption. By coupling source code to power consumption, testing and tuning for energy optimization are possible. Included in the comprehensive C-SPY debugger in IAR Embedded Workbench, power data can be visualized as a power log on a time-scale graph, or in the function profiler as power consumption data.
EnergyTrace allows developers to analyze power consumption down to 5nA resolution in real time for each peripheral and has IAR Embedded Workbench support for MSP430 starting from version 6.10.
