Its extensive catalog includes high reliability thin-film resistors, pulse and transient tolerant thick-film resistors, current/shunt sensing resistors, high voltage resistors, and wide-terminal resistors.

The full range of KOA passive components now available from Farnell consists of:

• High-reliability thin-film resistors – With a temperature coefficient of only ±5 ppm and a tolerance of just ±0.05%, KOA thin-film resistors are ideal for high-precision circuits such as control and monitoring in various industrial, medical, and automotive applications. The RN73R series offers enhanced resistance to electrolytic corrosion, a wide operating temperature range of -55°C to +155°C, and greater stability compared to previous versions. The second product line in this series, the RN73H, is further characterized by its increased humidity resistance and long-term stability.

• Pulse and Transient Tolerant Resistors – The SG73 series is an ideal solution for protecting electronic circuits against extreme pulses and transients, especially for protecting inputs and outputs, attenuators, and gate control circuits. It can handle pulses up to ten times greater than standard flat-type chip resistors, making it suitable for automotive electronics, power supplies, and motor control, among other applications. Using these components reduces the number of components required, resulting in substantial space savings.

• Resistors with wide leads for high power density – The WK73R series features wide leads on the long side of the resistor, allowing for up to three times the power rating of a similarly sized component with more traditional leads on the short side. The distance between the leads significantly reduces thermal stress between the resistor and the printed circuit board. These components are ideal for high-power density circuits and gate drivers in environmental and industrial applications.

• Current Sense Resistors – KOA’s TLR series of current sense resistors provides the high reliability and performance required by power control circuits such as motor control units, DC/DC converters, and CPU and pulse current sensing applications. Special tuning eliminates hot spots, thereby increasing device reliability with low parasitic inductance. The TLR series reaches 5 W (100 A) and is characterized by its superior resistance to corrosion and heat.

Simon Meadmore, Global Head of IP&E at Farnell, notes: “KOA continues to innovate and optimize its passive components so engineers can easily overcome design and performance challenges. Our customers now have access to the highest quality passive components for automotive, environmental, industrial, medical, and telecommunications applications, as well as energy-saving devices, household appliances, and power supplies, among others. The breadth of KOA’s chip resistor range leads the market and strengthens Farnell’s world-class catalog of over 360,000 passive components.”
