Since October, Reneos has been collecting and recycling used EV batteries for Zero Motorcycles in Europe. Specifically in Spain, the American company has had a direct presence in the market since last September with an ambitious growth plan in the country, reflecting Spain's strategic importance to the brand in Europe. Zero has dealerships in Benelux, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, and the Czech Republic. Thanks to Reneos' nationwide presence, batteries from these countries will be collected, transported, and processed in accordance with their respective legislation and safety regulations.

Danny van der Horst of Zero Motorcycles points out that "as an electric motorcycle manufacturer, we have a responsibility to manage used EV batteries. Thanks to our partnership with Reneos, we can now collect and recycle these batteries responsibly. This collaboration is a good example of how our industry can go further with a European network."

Exponential Growth of EV Batteries:
The use of batteries in electric mobility has led to exponential growth in battery production for the electric vehicle industry. Furthermore, studies indicate that the growth of the electric vehicle industry and the continued electrification of mobility will continue to drive exponential growth in battery production. This increase will, in turn, lead to greater demand for sustainable solutions for the collection and recycling of these batteries. In this regard, international collaboration is essential to support the electric vehicle industry, which is organized at both the European and global levels.

A Unique European Collaboration:
Given that the collection and recycling of lithium-ion batteries requires specific technical expertise, leading battery recycling industry organizations in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Norway, and Spain have joined forces to meet the demand from international companies and create a comprehensive network.

Reneos, the first European platform for the collection and recycling of electric vehicle batteries, leverages the expertise of its local member organizations and unites them on a European platform, enabling large-scale recycling of lithium-ion batteries for multinational companies. National organizations will ensure the safe transport and storage of spent and damaged batteries, adhering to European guidelines and national legislation for the transport of hazardous goods, before giving these batteries a second life through reuse or dismantling for recycling. In doing so, Reneos aims to contribute to sustainable solutions for the growing number of batteries.

Philippe Celis, CEO of Reneos: "In recent years, we have seen a European industry seeking sustainable solutions for the collection and recycling of an increasing number of electric vehicle batteries internationally. Reneos consolidates the expertise of several leading organizations in the collection and recycling of these batteries, while maintaining its local roots. We leverage the local knowledge of our partners to serve our customers internationally with a tailored offering for their local markets, taking into account local legislation and safety standards. Furthermore, by bringing together leading experts in battery recycling, we are putting Europe on the map as a fully-fledged battery recycling hub, further enhancing our competitiveness compared to Asia or the United States."
