The advanced technology of this type of battery differs from classic ventilated (VLA OPzS) and VRLA GEL models in several aspects, such as the design of the positive plate, by applying a harder paste to the grid to provide a higher density of active material, which improves its cyclic behavior; the improved design of the negative plate, with Nano-carbon technology applied to the grid to provide greater recharging efficiency, less risk of sulfation and greater capacity retention throughout the battery's life; or the orientation of the battery (horizontal) along with the gelled electrolyte (Silica Gel), which improves adhesion to the active material of the plate, resulting in a better gas recombination reaction.
Its modular design allows it to be installed in different configurations, to adapt to the requirements of all types of deep cycle applications, such as those related to energy storage (ESS), as well as the most demanding telecommunications systems.
This new battery concept is being successfully installed in many types of applications, such as TELECOM for one of the main telephone operators in Spain and South America, or ENERGY STORAGE (ESS) in the United Kingdom, in which, after various studies, they were used as replacements for classic tubular batteries, due to their improved characteristics in terms of performance and number of life cycles.
The space savings offered by this solution compared to traditional technologies is a crucial factor for many installations, and this new battery concept can achieve up to 40% less floor space for certain solutions and discharge patterns.
Furthermore, the charging method for these batteries differs from traditional (UI) battery charging methods, utilizing constant current charging. This improves charging efficiency and reduces charging times, making the solution much more suitable for these types of applications in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
In short, the new generation of VRLA batteries is achieving life cycles equivalent to the current "new" chemistries.
