The AVE 112 trains are equipped with two 84 SRX-155 FR batteries per train, providing a nominal voltage of 110 V and a total nominal capacity of 2 x 155 Ah for an expected autonomy of up to 3 hours. The main advantages offered by Ni-Cd Sintered-Pbe technology for backup power are maximum reliability, improved performance, minimal maintenance, reduced weight, and a smaller installation footprint. SRX batteries withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -50 to +70 °C.
SRX batteries have a lower life cycle cost (LCC) compared to batteries of other technologies. They reduce the total cost of ownership by providing up to 15 years of service, thanks to their robust construction, large electrolyte reserve, and advanced plate design. Saft's Sinter-Pbe technology, with a sintered positive electrode and a plasticized negative electrode, offers excellent chargeability with minimal water consumption, refill intervals of up to two years or more, and eliminates the risk of sudden failure associated with lead-acid batteries.
