Three input voltages (4.5V–18V, 9V–36V, and 18V–76V) and a wide variety of single (MHFS3) and dual (MHFW3) outputs cover a broad range of applications. Designed for optimal performance, the MH3 has a maximum insulation capacitance of only 20pF, reducing noise transmission. The MH3 is a COSEL exclusive design, manufactured in Japan, and comes with a 5-year warranty.
Designed with high reliability in mind, the COSEL MH3 series features reinforced insulation, withstands 3kVAC and 4.2kVAC insulation testing in accordance with safety standards, and its transformer is designed to withstand the differential voltage that can occur in industrial applications. With extensive experience in designing power supplies for equipment using IGBT controllers, COSEL designers applied high-power, high-insulation best practices to the low-power 3W MH3 series to reduce insulation fatigue resulting from the high differential voltage that occurs in motor control or the IGBT controller. COSEL conducted testing and verification and provides life expectancy curves in the Application Manual to assist system designers developing gate controllers for industrial equipment in applying appropriate design rules and precautions.
For medical applications, the MH3 series meets the 2xMOOP (250VAC) (Operator Protection Medium) insulation requirement, as specified in IEC 60601-1 3rd edition.
To reduce inventory and ensure ease of installation and maintenance, system designers require a DC/DC converter capable of accepting a wide input voltage range. The COSEL MH3 series is available in three wide input voltage ranges: 4.5V to 18V, covering 12V battery applications; 9V to 36V, covering both 12V and 24V battery systems; and 18V to 76V, covering both 24V and 48V systems. The MH3 series is available with five single outputs: 3.3V, 5V, 9V, 12V, and 15V (MHFS3), and two dual outputs: +/-12V and +/-15V (MHFW3). The outputs can be connected in series, delivering either 24V or 30V. The MHFS3 single output voltage can be adjusted using the Vout Trim pin on the secondary side.
The MH3 series features built-in overcurrent protection with automatic recovery. A remote control pin operating as negative logic (L:ON, H:OFF) is included as standard.
The MH3 series can operate within an ambient temperature range of -40 to +85°C and 20–95% RH (non-condensing). Depending on the cooling, a power reduction can be applied, not exceeding +105°C at the specified measurement point.
To reduce transmission noise, COSEL designers reduced the insulation capacitance to the lowest possible level, reaching a maximum of 20 pF, which is a significant benefit when powering motor control systems.
Industrial and, in some cases, medical equipment can be subject to vibrations that may damage the pins of SIP products. The pins of the COSEL MH3 series are molded into an epoxy support, reinforcing the connections between the application PCB and the module, making the unit even more reliable when used in demanding applications. The MH3 series has been rated in vibration tests: 10-55Hz 98.0m/s² (10G), 3-minute period, 60 minutes each along the X, Y, and Z axes; and shock: 490.3m/s² (50G) 11ms, once each along the X, Y, and Z axes.
Addressing both medical and industrial applications, the MH3 series has received the following agency approvals: UL62368-1, EN62368-1, c-UL (equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 62368-1), ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, EN60601-1 3rd, c-UL (equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60601-1).
To reduce the user card footprint, the MH3 series is housed in a SIP8 package measuring 22.0 x 12.0 x 9.5 mm (0.87 x 0.48 x 0.38 inches) (W x H x D) and weighing a maximum of 7 grams.
The power supply complies with the RoHS directive and is CE marked in accordance with the Low Voltage Directive.
