In recent years, with the growing importance of energy conservation across all sectors, there has been a push to achieve greater energy savings—even in the industrial equipment sector—through the use of high-power semiconductor devices and integrated power circuits. This has led to the need to provide breakdown voltages higher than the input voltage to prevent damage from instantaneous and transient voltage surges (such as those caused by lightning).

In response, ROHM leverages its advanced state-of-the-art power processes and vertically integrated production system to develop products for the industrial equipment market that demands long-term, stable supply, along with high reliability, to enable continuous operation.

The BD9G341AEFJ utilizes ROHM's high-voltage 0.6µm BiCDMOS process to achieve an industry-leading 80V maximum breakdown voltage (the highest in ROHM's range of non-isolated DC/DC converters) and a continuous operating input range of 12 to 76V. Advanced analog technology results in best-in-class conversion efficiency. Furthermore, multiple protection circuits minimize heat generation, even during output pin shorts, preventing potential damage and increasing reliability compared to conventional products. The compact 8-pin package requires fewer parts and reduces the mounting area, contributing to easier PCB design and miniaturization of the final product.

Main features

1. Class-leading 76V Breakdown Voltage:
Cutting-edge 0.6µm high-voltage BiCDMOS processes are used to develop a non-isolated DC/DC buck converter with an integrated MOSFET, boasting the highest breakdown voltage in its class. This provides support for input voltages up to 80V (max) and 76V (operation), ensuring ample margin against sudden overvoltages in communications infrastructure, factory automation equipment, industrial machinery, and other applications that typically operate at 48V or higher, thus improving system reliability.

2. Industry-leading efficiency:
The industry's highest energy conversion efficiency in the 76V DC/DC converter has been achieved by leveraging the most advanced analog design technology on the market. Efficiency is increased by 1.5% compared to conventional products during stable operation, and by 19% (300kHz oscillation frequency, 48V input, 5V output), improving energy savings in industrial equipment.

3. Output pin protection prevents damage for greater reliability.
Conventional protection features typically cannot suppress heat generation during output short circuits (contacts), which can lead to overheating and even damage. In contrast, ROHM's protection feature minimizes heat generation during accidental output short circuits, preventing damage and improving system reliability.

4. Compact packaging reduces mounting area and requires fewer external parts.
The BD9G341AEFJ is offered in a compact 8-pin package (4.9 mm x 6.0 mm, t = 1.0 mm) and features a highly integrated design that reduces the number of parts required to 17-12, simplifying final product design, bill of materials costs, and development efforts.

Applications
· Communication infrastructure, such as switching and base stations, office telephone systems, routers and other equipment requiring 48V input.
· Motors exposed to high voltages (e.g., electric bicycles, vacuum cleaners, industrial controllers).
