A flexible platform that delivers loads up to 480 A with eight BMR466 modules in a parallel configuration to handle varying electrical and thermal requirements. This results in a cost-effective, efficient, and scalable power solution with a small footprint, high stability, advanced loop compensation, and class-leading flexible thermal characteristics. The LGA-encapsulated BMR466 provides exceptional design flexibility for reliable, high-current, low-voltage power systems.
Ideal for deployment in distributed power and intermediate bus voltage architectures within the ICT (Information and Communication Technology), telecommunications and industrial sectors.
The BMR466 LGA measures 25.1 x 14.1 mm and has an exceptionally low profile of 7.0 mm, facilitating compact system design. Expanding the placement of 60A units across printed circuit boards allows for distributed heat dissipation, optimizing the use of multi-layer board technology and simplifying cooling design. Furthermore, the use of a surface-mount LGA package with a symmetrical contact arrangement provides superior mechanical contact and high solder reliability. The elimination of connection taps results in lower inductance, enabling excellent noise and EMI characteristics. This is further enhanced by a high number of LGA ground pads.
Through its control software, the BMR466 utilizes leading PWM control loop adaptive compensation and advanced power optimization algorithms to reduce energy consumption and deliver a stable power supply with fast transient performance across a wide range of operating conditions. In multi-module systems, two or more BMR466 POL single-phase converters can be synchronized with an external clock to enable phase diffusion, which reduces input ripple current and the corresponding capacitance requirements and efficiency losses. Ripple current can be estimated using the Ericsson Power Designer (EPD) software tool, which facilitates easy capacitor selection. The BMR466 is also fully compatible with PMBus commands and is integrated into the EPD software, making it easy for architects to simulate and configure complete multi-module and multi-phase systems before deployment. It is also available with a short time to market.
Operating with an input from 4.5V to 14V, the BMR466 is ideal for operation across a range of intermediate bus voltages and is compatible with the Dynamic Bus Voltage scheme to reduce power dissipation and save energy. The factory output voltage is set to 1.2V, but it can be adjusted from 0.6V to 1.8V either via a pin-strap resistor or PMBus commands. The BMR465 power train ensures high efficiency and reliability and is built using the latest generation technology, allowing the module to deliver up to 94.4% efficiency with a 5V input and 1.8V output at half load.
Other device features include an MTBF of 50 million hours (based on Telcordia SR-332 Issue 3, Method 1.) and protection functions including undervoltage input shutdown, overheat protection, short circuit output and overvoltage protection, and remote control and "Power Good".
"The BMR466 features a combination of best-in-class power density design, advanced power transistor technologies, automatic compensation techniques, and excellent thermal performance characteristics, along with all the advantages of digital control, to deliver stable and reliable out-of-the-box performance," commented Martin Hägerdal, President of Ericsson Power Modules. "In addition to significant competitive advantages, the POL 60A module also offers time-to-market benefits, requiring only half the board space and thus maximizing space savings.".
The BMR466 has been designed and manufactured by Ericsson to meet the highest standards available for DC/DC power converters in the industry, delivering levels of quality and reliability required by power system designers for the development of long-term, high-performance platforms.
