Power grid administrators and system architects, who develop electronic equipment connected to microgrids, are concerned about energy efficiency and use direct 350VDC bus conversion for specific applications. In many cases, voltage conversion is achieved using single-phase, modular HVDC/DC converters that reduce the bus voltage to the load. The same is happening in the latest generation of data centers, increasing energy utilization by reducing power losses through migration from AC to HVDC distribution. High-voltage DC distribution is also very common in industrial electric vehicles, such as those used in the mining and tunneling industries. These require fully encapsulated power modules capable of operating within a wide temperature range and down to -40°C. These are the applications for which the PRBX PQB-PHB-PFB300S series of HVDC/DC converters are designed. To provide a solution for any application with a high-voltage bus, the PRBX PQB-PHB-PFB300S series includes four power levels (150, 300, 600 and 750W) in three standard industrial packaging formats and footprints of ¼, ½ and full brick.
The 150W PQB150-300S model, in a quarter-brick format, has an input voltage of 180VDC to 425VDC and offers seven different output voltages: 3.3VDC/30A, 5.0VDC/30A, 12VDC/12.5A, 15VDC/10A, 24VDC/6.3A, 28VDC/5.4A, and 48VDC/3.2A. Typical efficiency is 89%.
The PHB300-300 has a half-brick form factor, 300W with an input voltage of 180VDC to 425VDC, and offers five output voltages: 5VDC/60A, 12V/25A, 24VDC/12.5A, 28VDC/10.7A, and 48VDC/6.25A. Typical efficiency is 89%.
The PFB600-300S is a full brick-shaped, 600W module with an input voltage of 200VDC to 400VDC, providing four different output voltages: 5VDC/80A, 12VDC/50A, 25A/24VDC, and 48VDC/12.5A. Efficiency is typically 89%, reaching 91% at the 24VDC and 48VDC outputs. For redundancy or additional power, the units include active current sharing
The 750W brick-shaped modules, PFB750-300S, can operate with an input range of 200VDC to 425VDC and are available in six different output voltages: 12VDC/62.5A, 15VDC/50A, 24VDC/31.2A, 28VDC/26.7A, 36VDC/20.8A, and 48VDC/15.6A. Typical efficiency is 90%, and they include active current sharing.
The PFB600-300 and PFB750-300S have an output adjustment range of 60-110%, making it easy to use the modules as a constant current source or as a secondary battery charger.
Designed for use in industrial environments, the PQB-PHB-PFB300S series can operate in a wide temperature range of -40 to +100 degrees Celsius and at 95% relative humidity without condensation. Thermal shutdown of the modules is set to protect the units when the casing reaches 105 degrees Celsius.
All products in the PRBX PQB-PHB-PFB300S series include undervoltage protection, overvoltage protection and lockout, continuous short-circuit protection, current limiting, and overheat protection. Remote on/off, positive, and negative switching are available. The output voltage can be adjusted via the trim, and all products have sense pins for voltage compensation.
The products are encapsulated in a plastic case with an aluminum plate for cooling and power dissipation. All units operate at a fixed switching frequency and include input filters (Pi or C type).
As required for HVDC bus voltage applications, all products have a minimum input-to-output isolation of 3,000VAC. The input-to-box isolation is 2,500VAC and the output-to-box isolation is 500VAC. The insulation resistance is a minimum of 10⁷ ohms (10 to the power of 7).
The PRBX PQB-PHB-PFB300S series comply with the requirements of UL60950-1, EN60950-1 and IEC60950-1 standards and CE marking 2014/30/EU.
