The IRS2548D, which combines power factor correction (PFC) and a half-bridge driver in a single IC, offers efficiency exceeding 88% with a 40V/1.3A high-brightness LED load, providing a more efficient solution compared to other flyback converter-based alternatives for power levels above 60W.
By incorporating both control stages into a single IC, the new IRS2548D offers an integrated solution for LED power supplies that also simplifies design and helps reduce the overall system cost, as well as providing significant energy savings.
The new device achieves PWM dimming of less than 2% of the generated light and offers protection features such as programmable PFC, overcurrent protection in the half-bridge, blocking immunity, and ESD protection. The IRS2548D also incorporates a variable frequency oscillator, a fixed internal dead time of 1.6 µs, an internal start-up MOSFET, an internal 15.6V to Vcc Zener blocking diode, and very low power start-up mode (250 mA).
