The digital interface allows system designers and remote operators to control and monitor the system's power status and consumption.
The LTM4676A micromodule regulator features a 70ms power-up time, an 8ms A/D converter telemetry update rate, and a 400kHz PMBus-compatible I2C serial interface. These improvements enable faster system startup and quicker power data collection in applications with the most demanding power-up requirements, such as PCIe-based platforms. Examples of end products include optical transport systems, switches and routers for data communications and telecommunications, industrial test equipment, robotics, and RAID and enterprise systems where the cost of power, cooling, and maintenance is paramount and must be continuously and accurately measured.
The LTM4676A consists of EEPROM, power MOSFETs, inductors, and accessory components. It incorporates two fast analog control loops, precision mixed-signal circuitry, and is supplied in a 16mm x 16mm x 5.01mm BGA (ball grid array) package.
In addition to supplying power to the point of load, the LTM4676A offers configurability and telemetry monitoring of power and power management parameters via PMBus, a standard digital serial interface protocol based on I²C. The LTM4676A operates with an input supply voltage of 4.5V to 17V and reduces VIN to two outputs between 0.5V and 5.4V. Two channels can share current and supply up to 26A (e.g., 13A + 13A as one output). Up to four LTM4676A devices can use different phases to share an output current of up to 100A.
To evaluate the performance of the LTM4676A, the free downloadable LTpowerPlay™ graphical user interface, the USB-PMBus converter, and the DC1811B-KIT demo kit are available. With a maximum DC output error of ±0.5% with respect to temperature, a current reading accuracy of ±2.5%, a
16-bit delta-sigma A/D converter, and integrated EEPROM, the LTM4676A offers best-in-class performance among switching analog regulators with accurate mixed-signal data acquisition. At startup, the output voltages, switching frequency, and channel phase angle assignments can be adjusted using resistors connected to the pins.
The LTM4676A's internal operating temperature range is -40°C to 125°C.
