These backward-engineered integrated circuits do not require additional heat sinks, discharge resistors, or capacitors. This helps designers reduce design time, simplify circuits, lower costs, and increase reliability by offering integrated solutions.

In recent years, AC/DC converters for home and industrial use must not only support 85V to 264V AC to accommodate the different AC voltages worldwide, but also comply with international standards such as Energy Star for energy efficiency and the IEC 62368 safety standard. It is also important that the ICs in AC/DC converters be surface-mount to reduce factory assembly costs. However, because DMOSFETs and planar MOSFETs are still widely used in AC/DC converter ICs due to their higher temperature and losses, it has been difficult until now to provide tens of watts of output power in a surface-mount package.

To address these challenges, ROHM has developed new compact, high-power, 45W surface-mount models, the BM2P06xMF-Z. These are equipped with an original, low-loss SJ (super-connect) MOSFET and optimized PWM control circuitry, facilitating the development of 85V to 264V AC/DC converters. The surface-mount package enables automated board mounting (a previously difficult feat). Simultaneously, the implemented features ensure compliance with the IEC62368 safety standard, even if the discharge resistor (a source of losses during standby mode) is removed.

Furthermore, it employs an original low-power standby control technology, resulting in extremely low standby power consumption. It also supports operating voltages up to 60 V (VDC), eliminating the need for an external step-down power supply circuit.
Compared to general-purpose products of equivalent performance, automated assembly contributes to reduced factory assembly costs. Additionally, ROHM is able to reduce standby power by over 90% and the number of power supply circuit components by four, contributing to greater energy savings and increased reliability in applications.

In the future, ROHM will continue to offer greater energy savings and optimization of systems, not only by developing a wide range of power semiconductors and advanced analog integrated circuits, but also by providing optimal solutions for each application.
