The FT600Q and FT601Q USB-a-FIFO are integrated circuits that enable USB 3.0 SuperSpeed and USB 2.0 High Speed data exchange with high-performance devices such as multifunction printers, high-speed/high-resolution video cameras, medical and industrial imaging systems, still image cameras, high-definition displays, surveillance systems, and scanners. Data acquisition systems can utilize these devices to take advantage of USB 3.0 as an alternative to Ethernet for high-speed, high-volume data transfers.
Designers can choose between the FT600Q with a 16-bit FIFO interface in a 56-pin QFN package or the FT601Q with a 32-bit interface in a 76-pin QFN package. Both devices can have up to eight terminals and support either a single 245 FIFO interface or multi-channel FIFO mode for data burst rates up to 3.2 Gbit/s. Other features include configurable GPIOs, multi-voltage I/O (1.8 V/2.5 V/3.3 V), and a 100 MHz FIFO clock or an optional 66.7 MHz clock. Additionally, Link Power Management (LPM), remote wake-up signaling, and battery charger detection help maximize mobile battery life.
Initially, four development boards are available, designed to connect to an add-on FPGA board. Different ANSI/VITA FMC (FPGA mezzanine board) or Altera HSMC® (high-speed mezzanine board) connectors, combined with the FT600Q or FT601Q integrated circuits, allow developers to select a target device and development platform from their preferred FPGA vendor. The boards can be configured to accept power from the USB VBUS, the motherboard FIFO, or an external DC power adapter. Windows® drivers for the new integrated circuits are available now, with Linux and macOS drivers coming soon.
