The integrated circuits are housed in the same high-slip, safety-compliant InSOP™-24D package as the larger members of the GaN-based InnoSwitch3 families, which target up to 120W.

Known for its exceptional efficiency—up to 94% efficiency in both line and load—PowiGaN technology is also extremely robust, making it highly resistant to surges and line spikes commonly seen in regions with unstable mains voltage. This allows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to specify a single power supply design for worldwide use. Applications for the new components include USB PD and high-current chargers/adapters for mobile devices, as well as set-top boxes, displays, networking and gaming products and devices, especially those seeking to comply with the European Energy Labelling Regulation.

According to Chris Lee, director of product marketing at Power Integrations, “We have experienced increased demand for our efficient AC-DC converter ICs with the highly robust 750V GaN transistor. Simultaneous electrical strength and efficiency are difficult to achieve due to the relationship between silicon MOSFET breakdown voltage and switching loss related to COSS. Our electrically robust PowiGaN transistors have a very low COSS, making it easy to achieve efficiency above 94% and a low field return rate in tropical markets.”
The new InnoSwitch3 ICs from Power Integrations are available now, with the InnoSwitch3-CP and InnoSwitch3-EP priced at $2.95 for orders of 10,000, and the InnoSwitch3-Pro priced at $3.25 for orders of 10,000.
