For several years now, the demand for current detection sensors has been increasing in various applications. For example, high-precision current detection is necessary to improve motor rotation efficiency and detect anomalies. At the same time, all these applications require a smaller mounting footprint. However, conventional configurations (operational amplifier + discrete components) often face problems such as a decrease in current detection accuracy due to variations in the precision and temperature characteristics of the components. Furthermore, achieving a small mounting footprint is difficult with these configurations.

In response, ROHM has leveraged its strengths in analog technology to develop a new series of current-sensing amplifier integrated circuits that achieve high-precision current sensing in a space-saving design. The BD14210G-LA incorporates all the necessary peripheral components. This simplifies current sensing by requiring only a shunt resistor and a decoupling capacitor. This reduces the number of components from eleven to just three compared to conventional configurations (operational amplifier + discrete components). Furthermore, it reduces the mounting area by 46% (SSOP6 package).

On the other hand, highly accurate current detection of ±1% has been achieved across the entire temperature range (-40°C to +125°C). The internal circuitry prevents any decrease in current detection accuracy, even with the addition of an external RC filter circuit for noise suppression, thus minimizing the number of labor hours required for design. The wide input voltage range (-0.2V to +26V) makes the BD14210G-LA ideal for current sensing applications operating with 12V/24V power supplies.

ROHM offers current sensing solutions that combine new integrated current-sensing amplifier circuits with a wide range of shunt resistors. Additional supporting materials, such as reference designs, are available. We also offer SPICE models, which can be downloaded from the ROHM website.

Product Range:
In addition to the BD14210G-LA, which is already in mass production, a total of eight models are planned for market launch. The range will include 1- and 2-channel variants with four different gain settings (20, 50, 100, 200 V/V).

Application examples
• Industrial equipment: wireless base stations, PLCs, inverters, chargers, etc.
• Consumer equipment: air purifiers, refrigerators, etc.
