The 4.5kV thyristor can handle a current of 2,825 amperes at a capsule temperature of 55°C, while the 2.8kV thyristor achieves 3,790 amperes under the same conditions. The junction-to-heatsink thermal resistance is only 0.008kΩ/W. These new thyristors are constructed using an all-diffused silicon sheet on a metal disc encapsulated in a completely hermetically sealed package.
These devices are available in two industry-standard heights and five voltage ratings. The designations are:
For 26mm thickness: N3790TJ240 (2400V), N3790TJ280 (2800V), N2825TJ400 (4000V), N2825TJ420 (4200V), N2825TJ450 (4500V).
For 35mm thickness: N3790TE240 (2400V), N3790TE280 (2800V), N2825TE400 (4000V), N2825TE420 (4200V), N2825TE450 (4500V).
Between the end of 2012 and 2013, products ranging from 600V to 6.5KV will be introduced to complete the product range.
Typical applications for these semiconductors include industrial controls, wind turbine converters, soft starters, excitation systems, and controlled rectifiers.
