The new integrated circuits offer flicker-free output up to 65W and deliver up to 94% efficiency with a standby power consumption as low as 15mW, with configuration options for two-stage or single-stage PFC compatibility. Targeting smart residential and commercial devices and low-profile troffers, the LYTSwitch-6 ICs also exhibit fast transient response, facilitating excellent cross-dimming performance of parallel LED strips without additional dimmer hardware, and enabling easy implementation of pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming interfaces. The LYTSwitch-6 ICs support both constant voltage (CV) and constant current (CC) operation, allowing lighting manufacturers to reduce the number of product variants, resulting in manufacturing and logistics savings. The new ICs are protected by an advanced thermal bending system that prevents overheating and provides the highest possible light output under any circumstances or installation.
The LYTSwitch-6 ICs feature an integrated 650V or 725V MOSFET and secondary-side FluxLink™ control, eliminating the need for an optocoupler and providing highly accurate output with better CV than 3% and DC over line, load, and temperature. Power conversion for the flyback stage, with an efficiency greater than 94%, is achieved through synchronous rectification and near-resonant switching, enabling high output power without a heatsink. For example, a 35W, 12V, 2.92A design with an additional PFC circuit has demonstrated an efficiency greater than 89%. The devices offer low standby power consumption, less than 15mW under universal AC input conditions, even with line voltage sensing, allowing the IC to protect itself from mains overloads and surges.
Comments from Hubie Notohamiprodjo, Director of Product Marketing for LED Lighting at Power Integrations: "The LYTSwitch-6 ICs are ideal for smart lighting applications with multiple outputs. By eliminating heatsinks and optocouplers and reducing the output capacitor size by up to 30%, the component count and system size are also reduced.".
