The LIN-based MLX81334 is a 1A motor driver designed for use in mechatronic thermal management systems. This single-chip device efficiently drives small DC, BLDC, or stepper motors. Each integrated circuit incorporates a microcontroller (with a 16-bit application processor and a separate communications processor), four FET half-bridge drivers, data conversion circuitry, and LIN or serial interfaces. The MLX81334's 64 KB on-chip memory (compared to 32 KB in the MLX81332) provides ample capacity for sophisticated software, allowing for the incorporation of more comprehensive safety diagnostics and essential calibration data. Furthermore, the MLX81334 supports over-the-air (OTA) updates.
The controller benefits from Melexis' engineering expertise in high-voltage silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology. As a result, it combines industry-leading operational robustness with high levels of functional integration. With high-power operation and an optimized form factor, the device occupies minimal board space. This enables its implementation even in the most space-constrained mechatronic applications.
Melexis MLX81334 controllers are supplied in 32-pin, 5 mm x 5 mm QFN packages. They are suitable for use in 12 V and 24 V automotive systems. They include protection against over-temperature, overcurrent, overvoltage, and undervoltage.
“The latest generation of vehicle mechatronics requires high-power control hardware that occupies very little space on the printed circuit board. With our new single-chip controller, we are enabling more compact thermal valve electronics for electric vehicles,” explains Marc Lambrechts, product line manager for embedded motor controllers at Melexis. “By maintaining a low material bill and an attractive price/performance ratio, our automotive customers can develop competitive thermal management systems. Moreover, the technical support of our experienced engineers helps ensure the designs are right the first time.”
