The MPLAB XC8, XC16, and XC32 compilers offer reduced complexity, along with the best execution speed and code size for all approximately 1,400 PIC® microcontrollers and dsPIC® digital signal controllers (DSCs), and are supplied with three optimization levels: Free, Standard, and PRO. By offering a monthly subscription PRO license, Microchip gives 8-, 16-, and 32-bit microcontroller designers the ability to take advantage of the most features and the best code optimization only when needed in the design cycle. Subscribers will also be able to receive updated versions of the MPLAB XC compiler type they subscribe to, without requiring a Microchip HPA (High Priority Access) maintenance subscription for MPLAB XC. Unlike most software subscriptions, this license is not cloud-based, giving designers the added flexibility of using the compilers offline.

Microchip's MPLAB XC compilers are compatible with Linux, Mac OS®, and Windows® operating systems, allowing designers to use their preferred platform for embedded development. Furthermore, MPLAB XC is part of Microchip's integrated toolchain: compatible compilers and debuggers/programmers that work seamlessly within the universal, cross-platform, open-source MPLAB X integrated development environment, reducing learning curves and tool investments. MPLAB XC compilers are also backward compatible with previous versions of MPLAB.

These monthly renewable subscription licenses are now available for $29.95 per month for the following compilers: MPLAB XC8 PRO (SW006021-SUB), MPLAB XC16 PRO (SW006022-SUB) and MPLAB XC32/XC32++ PRO (SW006023-SUB).

The subscription renews automatically each month and can be canceled and reactivated at any time. Free editions of the MPLAB XC compilers are also available for download and include a 60-day trial period to evaluate the PRO version.
