These advancements enable compliance with the European Union's Cyber Resilience Regulation (CRA), which mandates stringent cybersecurity measures for digital products sold in the EU. The CRA, aligned with standards such as ETSI's (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) EN 303 645 for basic cybersecurity requirements in consumer IoT and ISA/IEC 62443 from the ISA (International Society of Automation) and the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) for safety standards in industrial automation and control systems, is expected to set a globally influential precedent.
Microchip's ECC608 TrustMANAGER leverages Kudelski IoT keySTREAM™ software as a service (SaaS) to provide a secure authentication integrated circuit designed to store, protect, and manage cryptographic keys and certificates. The addition of FOTA services to the platform makes it easier for customers to deploy real-time firmware updates to remotely patch vulnerabilities and comply with cybersecurity regulations.
“Cybersecurity regulations are increasingly forcing connected device manufacturers to prioritize the implementation of secure firmware update mechanisms, lifetime credential management, and effective fleet deployment,” said Nuri Dagdeviren, corporate vice president of Microchip’s security products business unit. “The addition of FOTA services to Microchip’s TrustMANAGER platform provides a scalable solution that eliminates the need for costly, manual updates to static infrastructure security. FOTA updates allow customers to save resources and meet regulatory requirements, while also helping them keep their products up-to-date against emerging threats and new regulations.”.
The Microchip WINCS02PC Wi-Fi® network controller module used in the TrustMANAGER development kit is now certified according to the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) for a secure and reliable cloud connection, further enhancing its compliance with cybersecurity standards. RED sets stringent requirements for radio devices in the EU, with a particular focus on network security, data protection, and fraud prevention. From August 1, 2025, all wireless devices placed on the EU market must adhere to the cybersecurity measures established by RED.
Thanks to the addition of these services, TrustMANAGER (powered by keySTREAM) addresses key challenges related to IoT security, regulatory compliance, device lifecycle management, and fleet management. This solution is designed for IoT device manufacturers and industrial automation providers. Visit the website for more information about Microchip's Trust platform.
Development Tools:
The ECC608 TrustMANAGER is compatible with the MPLAB® X IDE (Integrated Development Environment) and is supported by the CryptoAuth PRO development board (EV89U05A) and the CryptoAuthLib software library. TPDS (Trust Platform Design Suite) contains a sample use case with step-by-step training and sample firmware code for deploying the keySTREAM service on AWS® by running the ECC608 secure element on a PIC32CX SG41 microcontroller based on a 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M4 and a WINCS02PC Wi-Fi module.
