With a peak driver current of up to 5 A, the new product can control 300 A switches without amplifiers; external amplifiers can be used to cost-effectively scale the gate current up to a maximum of 60 A. This device provides N-channel drive for "low and high side booster" MOSFET switches, reducing system cost, minimizing switching losses, and increasing power capacity.

Enhanced galvanic isolation is provided by Power Integrations' innovative FluxLink™ isolation technology, which eliminates the need for optocouplers, improving reliability and robustness. SCALE-iDriver technology simplifies design and manufacturing by reducing the number of components in the bill of materials; complete drivers can be built using a single SID1102K IC and only eight external components. The devices offer system-level protection features, including undervoltage lockout, stable rail-to-rail output voltage from a single power rail, high common-mode transient immunity, and 9.4 mm leakage and loss.

According to Michael Hornkamp, senior director of marketing for gate-driver products at Power Integrations: "The new SID1102K gate-driver IC reduces time to market for designers by providing an easy-to-deploy, scalable solution that includes critical safety and security features in a unique, compact, and rugged package.".

Key applications include UPSs, standard AC drives and VFDs, photovoltaic/solar systems, commercial air conditioning, DC chargers, and welding equipment.
