and will be ideal for applications ranging from tuners (OTT: Over-The-Top*) and IP media boxes to handheld devices, digital signage and "thin" clients**.
Increasingly, delivering video and audio over the internet requires set-top boxes and similar equipment to receive and distribute content to PCs and smartphones via a wireless LAN. The TZ5000 series application processors integrate the high-speed wireless LAN functionality required for high-quality video distribution, along with built-in NAND flash memory for storing user programs and large amounts of data as a cache. This reduces the number of external integrated circuits and the mounting area, contributing to smaller equipment.
The series also adopts an original low-power design, reducing energy consumption and heat generation when handling multimedia applications, such as HTML5, which typically places a heavy load on the CPU.
The TZ5000MBG and TZ5001MBG are built around a dual-core ARM® CORTEX®-A9 MPCore with a NEON™ media processing engine that operates at speeds up to 1.2GHz. An integrated IEEE802.11a/b/g/n/ac MIMO 2x2 baseband engine (Ensigma™ C4500) provides the broadband connection to wireless host devices.
Integrated 32Gbit MLC NAND and a dedicated memory controller ensure fast software loading (e.g., for an operating system) and high-speed data access. Furthermore, because the program area is integrated into the package, the processors are secure against data tampering and hacker attacks. The TZ5001MBG offers additional security in the form of Secure Boot System Control (SBSC).
Each processor features a PowerVR™ SGX540 GPU, a PowerVR VXD395 VPU, and a graphics engine that supports 1080p at 60 fps. This engine incorporates a multi-format decoder and IPC, as well as scaling, rotating, and compositing functionality. High-speed I/O is provided via DDR3/3L/LP-DDR3, USB OTG, SDIO, HDMI®, MIPI®, CSI, and DSI connectivity.
