One of the new offerings from the S32 software enablement platform is compatible with the new S32K3 and existing S32K1/S32G families, with a suite of security-compliant production software drivers designed to simplify the development of both AUTOSAR and non-AUTOSAR applications. The use of a common codebase and software API helps maximize software reuse across all processor platforms, while including the production license in the silicon price expands access to AUTOSAR for mass-market developers.
Why it matters:
With the transition of modern cars to software-defined vehicles, automotive software has become the primary development challenge. The S32K3 MCU software offerings help customers meet this challenge while benefiting from the common architecture of the S32 Automotive platform and its high levels of functional safety.
The software includes:
- High-level interface for AUTOSAR; low-level interface for non-AUTOSAR
- Compliance with ISO 26262 security standards up to ASIL D
- AUTOSAR 4.4, including multi-core and security support
- Broad IP coverage via the AUTOSAR standard and complex device drivers
- Configurable using NXP's S32 configuration tool or AUTOSAR partner toolchains
RTD has also been extended to the successful S32K1 MCU family, providing software portability across the entire S32K portfolio, from 128KB to 8MB and from 32 to 289 pins.
The complementary software for the S32K3 MCUs includes the Hardware Security Engine (HSE) firmware, designed to anticipate future OEM requirements, and an Inter-Platform Communication Framework (IPCF), middleware for managing communication and resources in multi-core/OS systems. A new Security Software Framework (SAF) is available under license and contains security libraries for fault detection and response mechanisms that provide a basis for compliance with ISO 26262.
Samples, evaluation boards, and developer resources for the S32K3 are expected to be available starting in early November at NXP Connects 2021 and on the S32K3 product.
