This advancement represents a significant leap from the 8800 MT/s of the Renesas RCD Gen5, setting a new benchmark in the performance of memory interfaces for data center servers.
Key features of the Renesas DDR5 Gen6 RCD
: - 10% bandwidth increase over the Gen5 RCD (9600 MT/s vs. 8800 MT/s)
- Backward compatibility with Gen5 platforms, enabling easy upgrades
- Improved signal integrity and power efficiency, ideal for AI, HPC, and LLM workloads
- Expanded Decision Feedback Equalization (DFE) architecture with eight levels and 1.5 mV granularity for superior margin tuning
- Decision Engine and Signal Telemetry (DESTM) for system-level diagnostics, real-time visibility of signal quality, and high-speed feedback
The new DDR5 RDIMM modules are essential to meet the growing demand for memory bandwidth in artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing (HPC), and data center applications. Renesas has played a key role in the design, development, and deployment of these new modules, collaborating with industry leaders, including CPU and memory manufacturers, as well as end users.
Renesas continues to solidify its leadership in DDR5 RDIMM controllers, leveraging its expertise in signal integrity and power optimization.
“The explosive growth of generative AI is driving a higher core count in SoCs, creating unprecedented demand for bandwidth and memory capacity,” said Sameer Kuppahalli, vice president of Renesas’ memory interfaces division. “Our DDR5 Gen6 clock controller demonstrates Renesas’ ongoing commitment to innovation and delivering solutions that anticipate market demand.”.
“Samsung has collaborated with Renesas across multiple generations of memory interface components, including the qualification of the Gen5 DDR5 RCD and the PMIC5030,” said Indong Kim, vice president of DRAM product planning at Samsung Electronics. “We are now excited to integrate the Gen6 RCD into our DDR5 DIMM modules for various SoC platforms, meeting the growing needs of AI, HPC, and other memory-intensive workloads.”.
