In recent years, advances in electrification and increased assembly density have led to a rise in ambient noise levels in electric vehicles and cars equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). Furthermore, noise assessments of individual circuit boards and systems are typically very difficult to perform during vehicle development, as they must be carried out after assembly. On the other hand, some findings indicate the need for improvements such as large-scale EMI (Electrical Mitigation Instrument Cluster) countermeasures to reduce noise.
In response to this challenge, ROHM launched the EMARMOUR™ series in 2017, which has since been well received in the industrial and automotive markets due to its superior noise immunity that reduces design resources by combining a vertically integrated production system with proprietary analog design technology.
The EMARMOUR™ series is designed to prevent malfunctions caused by noise without requiring special application measures. The latest BD8758xY series, in particular, has demonstrated superior performance in four international noise evaluation tests. For example, in ISO 11452-2 radio wave emission tests conducted by vehicle manufacturers, the output voltage of standard products fluctuates by more than ±300 mV across all frequency bands, while the new BD8758xY series achieves only ±10 mV or less. At the same time, the CMOS element structure enables precise, high-speed signal amplification, unaffected by external noise when installed inside specific sensor applications. This significantly improves reliability while reducing design lead times across a wide range of applications, including anomaly detection systems.
In addition, ROHM Real Model, a new high-precision SPICE model that meets the electrical and temperature characteristics of the actual IC and simulation values to avoid rework after prototyping, is available on the ROHM website.
