Since safety is paramount in many applications, the new Thermoflagger overtemperature detection integrated circuits monitor internal temperatures to ensure systems operate as intended, thus guaranteeing safety. Typical applications include mobile devices, household appliances, industrial equipment, and many others.

Expanding the Thermoflagger device range to eight, the new devices (TCTH011AE, TCTH012AE, TCTH021AE, TCTH022AE, TCTH011BE, and TCTH012BE) complement the previously released TCTH021BE and TCTH022BE, adding an additional 1µA PTCO (IPTCO) output current. A useful FLAG (PTCGOOD) signal is available as either push-pull or open-drain, along with the option of having the FLAG signal latched (or not).

The TCTH0xxxE series devices can identify temperature increases by detecting a change in resistance value due to temperature within a PTC. By connecting PTC thermistors in series, the temperature can be monitored at multiple points.

These new products are capable of operating in ambient temperatures ranging from -40°C to +125°C. They operate with a supply voltage (VDD) in the range of 1.7V to 5.5V and feature a low current consumption of only 1.8μA (typ.). They are housed in a small, standard SOT-553 (ESV) package measuring just 1.6 mm x 1.6 mm x 0.55 mm.

To assist designers in utilizing these integrated circuits, Toshiba has published a new reference design for the Thermoflagger devices.

Toshiba has collaborated with Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and now Murata recommends Thermoflagger integrated circuits as suitable for use with their PTC thermistors.
