The sensor combines a gyroscope and accelerometer with integrated AI software and a 32-bit microprocessor, creating a complete programmable system based on Bosch Sensortec's proven IMU platform. The BHI385 sensor's integrated AI supports key motion functions, such as 6DoF/9DoF sensor fusion, step counting, activity recognition, and gesture detection (single, double, or triple tap). Self-learning, cyclical gesture recognition enables it to detect and adapt to repeated movement patterns, thus identifying the activity being performed and its quality. This allows for advanced use cases, such as movement quality assessment in sports or rehabilitation training.

All processing is performed on the integrated low-power processor, eliminating wake-up calls to the main CPU. Typical current consumption is less than 500 μA at 50 Hz for sensor fusion and less than 50 μA for simpler accelerometer-based algorithms. The BHI385 is supplied in a compact 20-pin LGA package measuring 2.5 x 3.0 x 0.95 mm³. Its low power consumption and integrated intelligence make it ideal for wearables, smart headphones, and peripheral AI systems. The BHI385 IMU is compatible with the BHI385 Shuttle Board 3.0.
