mixed-domain-oscilloscope-wIt provides the necessary tools to test and debug virtually any embedded design. Furthermore, Tektronix has developed the MDO3000 to be fully customizable, allowing customers to select the functionality and features they need now and in the future. The device can be upgraded to meet your specific requirements:
- Upgrade bandwidth performance up to 1 GHz
- Extend RF bandwidth up to 3 GHz
- Add 16 digital channels with probe
- Add an Arbitrary Function Generator.

Due to the complexity of modern embedded designs coupled with the growth of wireless technology, it has become increasingly expensive to provide designers with all the tools they need for efficient debugging and troubleshooting. The MDO3000 fundamentally changes the game by offering the functionality of six separate instruments without the significant cost of those instruments individually. It is also portable, weighing just 4 kg.
"The case for multi-instrument integrated oscilloscopes is extremely compelling on several levels," said Dave Farrell, general manager of conventional oscilloscopes at Tektronix. "In addition to cost savings, the MDO3000 saves space on the engineer's desk, improves ease of use by utilizing the same basic controls for multiple instruments, and ensures that engineers always have access to all the instruments they need. There's no need to locate a spectrum analyzer or function generator because it's already integrated into the oscilloscope."

The only oscilloscope with an integrated spectrum analyzer, from €2,700 to €11,200.
Recent research shows that over 25% of oscilloscope users now use a spectrum analyzer several times a week¹ and over 40% of embedded product design projects include some form of wireless capability². As the world's only oscilloscope with an integrated spectrum analyzer, the MDO3000 series is uniquely positioned to address this paradigm shift for today's designers. Engineers can now access both time-domain and frequency-domain analysis with a single instrument. When compared to other oscilloscopes and their integrated analyzer, the MDO3000 mixed-domain oscilloscope offers best-in-class performance and features, providing the convenience of a single instrument without compromising performance.
All functionality is integrated into the basic unit and is enabled by inserting a key on the top side of the device.
Thanks to the MDO3000 series, engineers can start with the minimum performance and functional levels they need to complete the project, knowing that their test platform can be upgraded in the field without delay. Performance upgrades include the oscilloscope's analog bandwidth and the spectrum analyzer's input channel frequency. Functional upgrades include the addition of digital channels, protocol analysis, arbitrary function generation, or digital voltmeter measurements.
The MDO3000 series oscilloscopes feature 2 or 4 analog input channels with a bandwidth ranging from 100 MHz to 1 GHz, 16 digital channels (optional), and an RF input channel that matches the oscilloscope's bandwidth (9 kHz up to the analog bandwidth). The RF input frequency of any model can be extended to 3 GHz.
Based on the MSO3000 series mixed-signal oscilloscopes, the MDO3000 offers the industry advanced debugging functionality. Thanks to the new FastAcq feature, the MDO3000 oscilloscopes offer a capture rate of over 283,000 waveforms per second, displayed on a dynamic digital phosphor screen for easy detection of rare signal anomalies. Over 125 possible trigger combinations, automatic serial and parallel bus analysis, innovative Wave Inspector controls, and optional automatic power measurements complete the feature set and ensure comprehensive tools for every stage of debugging. This functionality is further expanded with the addition of nine optional serial bus protocol analysis packages, including I2C, SPI, RS-232, USB 2.0, CAN, LIN, FlexRay, MIL-STD-1553, and digital audio.

The optional integrated 50 MHz AFG generator is more than twice as fast (250 MS/s) as those offered by competitors and provides eight times the recording length (128 kpoints) for generating arbitrary waveforms. It easily captures the oscilloscope signal and displays it on the same instrument. Simultaneously, the integrated digital voltmeter (DVM) provides 4-digit resolution for AC RMS, DC, or AC+DC RMS measurements, as well as 5-digit frequency measurements on a large, easy-to-read display, making changes in your readings instantly visible. The multimeter is available free of charge when you register the MDO3000 oscilloscope after purchase.
Adding to their history of cost-effective products, the MDO3000 instruments are the first on the market to offer 3.9 pF passive voltage probes in instruments with a starting price of €2,700. For higher-speed applications, 1 GHz passive voltage probes are offered as standard with the 1 GHz instruments—a unique feature in the market. These low-capacitance probes minimize the impact on the devices under test while reducing signal distortion and allowing the signal to pass cleanly to the oscilloscope for measurement.
"The trend toward integrated instrumentation is one we intend to wholeheartedly embrace. Now we can offer our engineers the complete set of tools they need while lowering the total cost of ownership," said Scott Ausborn, Logitech UE Technical Test Supervisor. "But what makes the MDO3000 particularly appealing is the integrated spectrum analyzer. Wireless communications are appearing in more products every day, and EMI challenges are emerging regularly, so having a spectrum analyzer tightly integrated into our oscilloscopes isn't just a nice feature; it's becoming a basic requirement."
The instruments have a 3-year factory warranty, extendable to 5 years.
