Its input range of 2.42V to 15V and output range of 1.4V to 15.75V provide a regulated output with input voltage higher, lower, or equal to the output voltage. The low-noise buck-boost topology incorporated into the LTC3129 offers a seamless transition for all operating modes, making it ideal for applications that must maintain a constant output voltage, even when the input voltage equals the output voltage. It also includes programmable maximum power point control (MPPC) capability, thus ensuring maximum power extraction from non-ideal power sources such as photovoltaic cells.
Its quiescent current of only 1.3µA makes the LTC3129 well-suited for always-on and energy harvesting applications where long battery life is of paramount importance. The LTC3129's constant 1MHz switching frequency ensures low noise and high efficiency while minimizing the size of external components. The combination of tiny external devices and a 3mm x 3mm QFN or MSOP-16E package provides a space-saving solution.
The LTC3129 incorporates four N-channel MOSFETs with low RDSON to deliver up to 95% efficiency. Its user-selectable Burst Mode® reduces quiescent current to just 1.3µA, improving efficiency with small loads and extending battery life. For noise-sensitive applications, Burst Mode can be disabled, providing low-noise continuous switching. Other features include a power-on indicator, current-mode control, thermally compensated shutdown, and output disconnect.
The LTC3129-1 shares all the functions of the LTC3129, but offers eight fixed output voltages between 2.5V and 15V. These outputs are user-programmable and eliminate the resistive divider required by the adjustable version.
The LTC3129EUD and LTC3129EUD-1 are supplied in a 16-pin, 3mm x 3mm QFN package, while the LTC3129EMSE and LTC3129EMSE-1 are supplied in a thermally enhanced 16-pin MSOP package. Their starting price is $2.95 per unit for both versions.
