The module is also compatible with the new "teraAMP" standard developed by the AMP Group™ (Architects of Modern Power).

Multiple BMR467 products can be easily connected in parallel to provide a load of up to 480A, making it ideal for advanced network processors that require high-performance power delivery with advanced software control for enhanced flexibility. These capabilities also make the BMR467 ready for future Software-Defined Power Architecture (SDPA) systems, which power system architects foresee as the path to achieving highly efficient and energy-optimized network architectures by 2020.

The POL BMR467 converter can operate as a standalone unit, delivering 120A at output voltages from 0.6V to 1.8V, with a power output of up to 216W. It can also be integrated into a larger power system when processor boards require higher current. Built on a two-phase topology, four BMR467 modules can be connected in parallel to provide up to 480A. BMR467 modules can be incorporated into a multi-module, multi-phase power system (up to eight phases) that allows for phase diffusion, reducing peak current and the number of capacitors required by the final system. The module can be easily configured using the downloadable Ericsson Power Designer software tool.

The BMR467 offers automatic digital compensation to provide stability, accurate line and load regulation, and excellent transient performance across a wide range of operating conditions, including switching frequency, input voltage, output voltage, and output capacitance.

Measuring 50.8 x 19.05 x 8.2 mm in a SIP package, the BMR467 offers a power density of 15 A/cm³ (250 A/IN³). Other key electrical specifications include: an output voltage range of 0.6 V to 1.8 V, adjustable via a pin-strap resistor or PMBus commands; and an input voltage of 7.5 V to 14 V, making the BMR467 suitable for distributed power and intermediate bus voltage architectures, which are common in advanced networking, telecommunications, server, and storage applications.

Furthermore, the BMR467 driver ensures high efficiency and reliability and is built using the latest generation of power transistor semiconductors, enabling the module to deliver exceptional energy efficiency of 93.2% at 12Vin, 1.8Vout under half load. Other device specifications include an MTBF of 10.49 million hours and protection features including input shutdown for under- or over-voltage, overcurrent and output overvoltage protection, overheat protection, remote control, and Power Good pins.

"The BMR467 offers a high level of flexibility for power system architects, delivering 120A as a standalone module or up to 480A when connected in parallel with up to four modules," says Martin Hägerdal, President at Ericsson Power Modules. "Integrating advanced power transistor technologies to provide industry-leading power density, this new DC/DC POL module offers the latest in offset-free technology, as well as delivering excellent line regulation characteristics for modern power applications."

Like its predecessors, the BMR467 has been designed and manufactured by Ericsson to meet the highest standards available in the DC/DC power converter industry. The device delivers the levels of quality and safety expected by power system designers to develop reliable, high-performance, long-term platforms.

Now available, the BMR467 is priced starting at $43.25 for OEM quantities of 1000+.
* Improved performance, power management, and end-user value are the main benefits offered by Ericsson's 3E range of digitally controlled power modules.
