Like other Puls power supplies, the ML60 has been tested at ambient temperatures up to 60°C without losses or 70°C with little drift, although what is really remarkable about these new power supplies is the ability to start from -40°C (models ML60.242 and ML60.122).

 


Many manufacturers claim their power supplies can operate at around -25°C, but the main problem is that they are unable to start up at such low temperatures. Most power supplies on the market use current-limiting resistors to control the current surge during startup. Since these resistors increase in value at low temperatures, they are set to a point where the incoming current is insufficient to start the power supply.


Puls has designed a special circuit to limit the current at startup without using this type of resistor, so it can work in extreme conditions without problems.


A similar technology has been incorporated into the Puls power supplies used at Neumaver Station III in Antarctica, to power monitoring equipment, photovoltaic sensors and wind meters.
