According to Bruce Renouard, CEO of Pre-Switch: "We are shipping CleanWave200 evaluation systems to early adopters around the world, and the efficiency data we are releasing today more than justifies our design targets. Customers could use Pre-Switch technology with even better MOSFETs and expect incremental performance gains, but there is no other approach that comes close to 99.3% efficiency at 100kHz with so few low-cost SIC MOSFETs.".
The Pre-Switch AI enables users to move from costly, lossy hard-switching implementations to highly efficient soft-switching designs with a switching frequency 10 times higher, producing a near-pure sine wave output. The Pre-Switch driver analyzes multiple inputs cycle by cycle, making real-time adjustments to the small, forced-resonance transistors, enabling seamless soft switching in changing environments. The Pre-Switch AI algorithm accounts for and optimizes system temperature variations, device degradation, changes in input voltages, and sharp current swings.
Published data represents system efficiency for switching speeds of 50–100 kHz, input voltages, power, and output current, allowing system designers to compare Pre-Switch's results with their own requirements. Renouard adds: “Switching losses with our Pre-Switch technology are virtually zero. To put this into perspective, an EV with Pre-Switch technology improves inverter efficiency, producing a pure sine wave output that dramatically improves motor efficiency at low torques where most drivers operate. This translates to an increase in range of up to 12%.”
