In recent years, the demand for greater efficiency and power density is driving the adoption of higher input voltages in industrial and consumer applications, and at the same time requiring MOSFETs not only to have low conduction resistance, but also high non-disruptive voltages.

There are two types of MOSFETs: N-channel and P-channel. While N-channel MOSFETs generally offer higher efficiency when used on the high side, they require a gate voltage higher than the input voltage, which complicates circuit configuration. P-channel MOSFETs, on the other hand, can be driven with a gate voltage lower than the input voltage, thus significantly simplifying circuit configuration and reducing design overhead.

In this context, ROHM has developed low-conduction resistance -40V/-60V P-channel MOSFETs compatible with 24V input, utilizing an advanced and improved 5th generation process. Based on ROHM's well-established P-channel MOSFET structure, these new products leverage the enhanced process technology to achieve the lowest conduction resistance per unit area in their class. This translates to 62% lower conduction resistance compared to conventional products for the new -40V products and 52% lower resistance for the new -60V products.

At the same time, quality is improved by optimizing the device structure and adopting a new design that mitigates the concentration of the electric field. As a result, high reliability and low conduction resistance are achieved (which are typically in a compensating relationship). These solutions contribute to long-term stable operation in industrial equipment that demands exceptional quality.

ROHM continues to develop a range of packages for a wide variety of applications, including products optimized for the automotive sector. In addition to these 5th generation P-channel MOSFETs, we are developing more efficient N-channel MOSFETs to strengthen our portfolio for 5G base stations and data center servers, where demand continues to rise. These products help reduce the design burden of applications and increase efficiency and reliability.
