Edward Ong, director of product marketing at Power Integrations, states: "As electric vehicle electronics become more sophisticated, automotive customers require higher power outputs to drive them. This new IC's 850 mA rating represents a 230% increase in available power output compared to other members of the LinkSwitch-TN2Q family." The LinkSwitch-TN2Q ICs reduce the number of components by including the control, driver, protection circuitry, and a 750V power MOSFET in a single SMD package.

The LinkSwitch-TN2Q ICs are AEC-Q100 certified and support buck, buck-boost, and non-isolated flyback converter topologies. Each device incorporates a 750V power MOSFET, an oscillator, on/off control, a high-voltage switched-mode current source for self-powering, frequency jitter detection, fast current (cycle-to-cycle) sensing and current limiting, hysteretic thermal shutdown, and output overvoltage protection circuitry in a monolithic IC.

The LinkSwitch-TN2Q ICs draw very little standby current, resulting in power supply designs that easily meet less than 50mW no-load requirements at a 400VDC input. Comprehensive protection features ensure the power supplies are safe. and reliable, including protection against input and output overvoltage, device overtemperature, loss of regulation, and power supply overload or short-circuit failures.
