• Ultra-low quiescent current mode
• 150°C operating temperature: for demanding automotive or industrial operating conditions
• Open/short pin and component failure protection
• Unique EMC reductions achieved by incorporating spread spectrum frequency modulation (dithering) into a non-interleaved external SYNC clock, as well as providing an interleaved clock output for other converters in the system.

As the electrical content in automobiles continues to increase, so does the ongoing consumption of battery maintenance systems. These components must be able to pass the "airport test," drawing as little current as possible so the battery can start the car after an extended period (such as a vacation).
Similarly, industrial systems powered by batteries must limit battery consumption to extend their service life.

The ARG81800 DC/DC regulator draws only 8 µA of VIN while regulating 3.3V or 5.0Vout with no load. Compared to the typical ~100 µA budgeted for battery-powered automotive subsystems, this low lq coefficient solution frees up significant overhead to be allocated to other current draws that may occur in the system, allowing for greater design headroom.
Beyond automotive applications, this performance is also effective for any battery-powered or energy-conscious system design.

Overcoming
EMC can be a slow, expensive, and frustrating process. With extremely low EMI, the ARG81800 is designed to make passing the first time easier.

The ARG81800 is capable of a wide switching frequency of up to 2.4 MHz to avoid critical "exclusion" areas (e.g., the AM band), as well as oscillation frequency and slew rate control to minimize switching noise. It also offers a unique "dithering-on-sync" CLKOUT, which can be used for other switching converters in the system.

Designed for ruggedness.
Pin open/short failures can occur, but they don't have to ruin the entire board. The robust IC design in the ARG81800—including pin open/short failures and components—protects against IC and PCB damage during manufacturing and eliminates associated scrap costs. A 150°C Tj operating capability makes the ARG81800 suitable for industrial automation applications and harsh environments. A good power output signal with up-end simplifies system power sequencing and provides diagnostic coverage.

The ARG81800 is supplied in a low-profile 20-pin "wettable flank" QFN package with an exposed power chip.
