With the ability to store application code in built-in flash memory, the TC35678 can run with or without an additional host microcontroller for small Internet of Things (IoT) and Bluetooth Smart applications.
The Toshiba TC35678 IC, available from Mouser Electronics, is based on an ARM® Cortex®-M0 microcontroller and incorporates 256 KB of built-in flash ROM. Developers can use the flash ROM to store programs and data in separate operations, eliminating the need for an external EEPROM and contributing to a minimal bill of materials, thus reducing overall design cost and size. The TC35678 also offers Bluetooth Host Control Interface (HCI) and Bluetooth Low Energy GATT functions, enabling rapid BQE system certification.
With a 3V supply voltage, the TC35678 offers one of the lowest power consumptions in the industry. Utilizing its efficient DC-DC converter for power management, the low-power IC design ensures a current reduction of nearly 46 percent and a maximum current consumption of 3.6 mA in transmit mode. To support various battery types, the TC35678 has an operating voltage between 1.8V and 3.6V, and the IC's programmable operating modes allow for optimal power consumption.
Other features of the TC35678 include 100 Kbps of SRAM, a general-purpose analog-to-digital converter (ADC), PWM functions, a low-dropout regulator, a wake-up alert for host devices, and user program functionality. An on-chip silicon oscillator helps control both the main and sleep clocks, so no external clocks are required. Communications are handled via the IC's UARTs, I2C, SPI, and general-purpose inputs and outputs (GPIOs).
Mouser Electronics, Inc. distributes the TC35678 IC from Toshiba Semiconductors. Featuring industry-leading low current consumption and extended operating times, the single-chip device complies with Bluetooth® Core Specification 4.2.
