It simplifies system design and reduces system costs in power monitoring applications for smart outlets and plugs, power strips, AC/DC power supplies, and distributed power. It incorporates three A/D converters for voltage measurements and two current loads, a 16-bit calculation engine, EEPROM, and a flexible 2-wire interface. The MCP39F511N dual-channel power monitoring IC simplifies the design of energy-intensive appliances, machinery, and systems by reducing firmware development and the number of ICs required to monitor the power supply of multiple loads.
A low-drift integrated voltage reference, along with a SINAD (signal plus noise and distortion) of 94.5 dB for each current measurement channel, enables the MCP39F511N to monitor two current loads with an error of only 0.5% for a wide dynamic range of 4000:1. Its ability to measure active, reactive, and apparent power, active and reactive energy accumulation, RMS current and RMS voltage, line frequency, and power factor, along with its integrated advanced features, allows designers of high-performance devices to reduce the bill of materials and shorten time to market.
The MCP39F511N is supported by Microchip's MCP39F511N Power Monitoring Demo Board (ADM00706), which is now available.
The MCP39F511N is now available for sampling and volume production; it is supplied in a 5x5 mm, 28-pin QFN package.
