With user-programmable filtering to adjust resolution, response time, and bandwidth for optimal signal-to-noise ratio, the sensor features built-in diagnostics, including broken wire detection.
The SOIC8 surface-mount device incorporates Melexis' patented Integrated Magnetic Concentrator (IMC), enabling precise, non-contact busbar current measurement in combination with a simple U-shaped magnetic shield. When mounted on a printed circuit board, the sensor sits directly on the busbar, within the shield, allowing for easier mounting than conventional Hall effect sensors. What sets the proven IMC-Hall® technology apart from coreless solutions is its significantly less critical positioning. The design can accommodate more mechanical movement because the measurement is not dependent on a magnetic field gradient. Other technologies that are dependent on a gradient can result in very heavy machining of the busbar, causing significant thermal hot spots. On the other hand, IMC-Hall® technology offers the advantages of coreless technologies, making it suitable for smaller assemblies with surface-mount package solutions. This avoids the need for more complex packages with through-holes that often require the specific lead bending/forming characteristic of core-based solutions.
The MLX91216 XHF expands Melexis' family of IMC-Hall® sensors that provide accurate, high-speed current measurement for a wide range of industrial and automotive applications.
High-Field (HF) versions of the MLX91216: 200 to 600 A
Very-High-Field (VHF) versions of the MLX91216: 400 to 1200 A
eXtra-High-Field (XHF) versions of the MLX91216: 800 to 2000 A
