These monolithic devices, combining a high degree of functionality with low cost, are freely programmable and meet the growing automotive industry demand for sophisticated LIN-based switches, actuators, drives, sensor interfaces, and LED lighting systems.

The MLX81107 and MLX81109 incorporate a physical layer LIN transceiver, LIN controller, voltage regulator, 16-bit RISC-based microcontroller, 32 KB of Flash memory, and a 20-channel A/D converter, along with 16-bit pulse-width modulation (PWM) capabilities. The LIN protocol driver complies with LIN 2.0, LIN 2.1, and LIN 2.2, as well as SAE J2602. The ICs feature four high-voltage (12V DC) I/O pins and eight low-voltage (5V) I/O pins. These interfaces facilitate communication with the vehicle's LIN infrastructure, and each I/O can be programmed to control application components using the onboard Flash memory resources.

The high level of integration achieved by the MLX81107/9 devices significantly reduces bill of materials costs and board space requirements. The combination of the LIN controller and the LIN-approved control circuit, along with the direct control I/O for high/low voltage, enables rapid LIN implementation in a wide variety of applications. Because these ICs are supplied in 5mm x 5mm QFN packages, their thermal performance is maximized, and board space is conserved. To ensure reliability in harsh automotive environments, they have an operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C and include an over-temperature shutdown mechanism and a 40V load dump protection mechanism.
