The Allegro A4408 output provides a 5V/115mA trace/protected LDO, a 3.3V/165mA LDO, a 5V/325mA LDO, and an adjustable output synchronous buck regulator (1.25V/700mA). The A4408
is ideal for under-the-hood applications, with key automotive uses including electronic stability control (EPS), transmission control units (TCUs), advanced braking systems (ABS), advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), emissions control modules, and other automotive applications.
The A4408 contains a watchdog timer that can be programmed to accept a wide range of frequencies (WDADJ). The watchdog timer has a fixed wake-up delay to accommodate processor startup. The watchdog timer also functions as a enable/disable pin (active low, WDENn) to facilitate initial factory programming or field reflash programming.
The A4408's diagnostic outputs include a power-on reset (NPOR) output. POK5V indicates the status of the protected 5V and 5V LDOs. Fault indicator 0 (FF0) and fault indicator 1 (FF1) retain the last fault for resetting the microcontroller. Dual bandgaps, one for regulation and one for fault checking, improve the A4408's long-term reliability.
The A4408's inputs include a logic-level input (ENB) and two high-voltage inputs (ENBAT1 and ENBAT2). The A4408 provides flexibility by including a TRACK pin to set the tracking regulator reference to either the 5V or 3.3V output, allowing the A4408 to be adapted across multiple platforms with different types of sensors. The MODE pin selects the NPOR undervoltage threshold for the V5 and V5P outputs.
Protection features include undervoltage and overvoltage protection on all four CPU power rails. In the event of an output short circuit, all linear regulators have roll-off overcurrent protection. Additionally, the V5P output is protected from a short-to-battery event. Both switching regulators include pulse-to-pulse current limiting, hiccup-mode short-circuit protection, LX short-circuit protection, asynchronous diode failure protection (VREG), and thermal shutdown.
The A4408 is supplied in a low-profile (1.2 mm maximum height) 38-lead eTSSOP package (suffix "LV") with a thermal pad.
