The new product is a three-phase gate driver for external N-channel power MOSFETs used to drive a three-phase BLDC motor. The TB9083FTG complies with ISO 26262 2nd ed. and supports the highest level of functional safety at ASIL-D. Functional safety standards such as ISO 26262 aim to minimize the risk of system failures, meaning the new device can be used in the most safety-critical automotive systems, such as steering and braking. To this end, the TB9083FTG includes ABIST and LBIST self-diagnostics and is supplied with an ASIL safety manual and safety reports.
Capable of operating with PWM signals up to 20kHz, the controller includes three pre-driver channels for safety relays and a built-in amplifier for motor current sensing (with six gain settings). Communication is via a CRC-enabled SPI bus.
The TB9083FTG is suitable for the harsh automotive environment and can operate down to -40°C and up to a maximum ambient temperature (Ta) of +150°C or a maximum junction temperature (Tj) of +175°C. The device is in the process of AEC-Q100 qualification.
By reducing the overall printed circuit board mounting area, the controller is housed in a small P-VQFN48-0707-0.50-005 package with a footprint of 7.0 mm x 7.0 mm. The package incorporates wettable flanks, as required by automotive quality inspection.
