The two components, SID1132KQ and SID1182KQ, are suitable for controlling 650V, 750V, and 1200V automotive IGBT and SiC-MOSFET modules, and are rated for maximum currents of +/- 2.5A and +/- 8A, respectively. The SID1182KQ has the highest output current of any available isolated-gate driver and is capable of controlling a 600A/1200V and an 820A/750V switch.

The SCALE-iDriver family of single-channel IGBT and SiC-MOSFET driver integrated circuits features Power Integrations' innovative FluxLink™ magneto-inductive bidirectional communication technology, which ensures reinforced galvanic isolation between the primary and secondary sides, setting a new standard in isolation integrity and stability. FluxLink technology eliminates the need for optoelectronics, which suffer parametric changes with age and relentless thermal degradation that limits operational life. The use of magnetically locked coupled conductors in a homogeneous thermoset with high-quality insulation greatly improves operational stability and longevity. The devices utilize Power Integrations' compact and rugged eSOP package, which offers a CTI level of 600, an isolation distance and creepage distance of 9.5 mm, and easily meets automotive requirements of 5500 m.

According to Michael Hornkamp, senior marketing director for gate driver products at Power Integrations: “Automakers require safe, intelligent, and highly integrated solutions for EV and HVE applications, including main inverter, braking chopper, DC-DC battery converter, and AC-DC on-board battery charging designs. AEC-Q100 approval for the SCALE-iDriver gate driver family allows automotive design engineers to increase system efficiency and, for the first time, benefit from this ultra-safe and reliable isolation technology. Our FluxLink magnetic coupling technology enables galvanically isolated data transfer and includes a minimum internal clearance of 0.4 mm through high-quality insulation between the low- and high-voltage sides. SCALE-iDriver automotive integrated circuits achieve a new level of driver reliability and isolation safety.”.

SCALE-iDriver devices minimize the number of external components required, simplifying the bill of materials and enabling two-layer PCB designs, which reduces interference and increases overall system reliability. The automotive DC-DC converter for the secondary side supply voltage has been greatly simplified, as the SCALE-iDriver IC only requires a single-pole voltage. The voltage and power management IC handles the necessary regulation of positive and negative gate voltages. The IC features a full range of safety features, including Advanced Soft Shutdown (ASSD) for short-circuit disconnection and undervoltage protection.
