In modern vehicles, countless systems rely on the precision of switch and latch mechanisms. With so many switches deployed in cars, it's also crucial to ensure they operate efficiently, minimizing energy consumption. Every microwatt counts. The Melexis MLX92235 microwatt switch effectively addresses these requirements with four product variants. Offering industry-leading accuracy, consistency, and reliability, these 3-wire monolithic magnetic switches guarantee optimal performance throughout the vehicle's lifespan.

To minimize board space usage, the MLX92235 requires no external components and is offered in a standard automotive TSOT23-3L package. In demanding automotive environments, its reliable operation is ensured by a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 105°C. Furthermore, the inclusion of flexible input voltage, selectable magnetic threshold, temperature coefficient, refresh rate, and output options (push-pull or open drain) facilitates seamless integration into various vehicle systems.

The MLX92235's advanced power design incorporates integrated logic that enables automatic sleep/wake sequencing with a typical sleep current draw of 0.65μA at 1.8V. Additionally, the MLX92235 includes a selectable sleep time from 0.6ms to 800ms.

As a highly sensitive chopper-stabilized Hall sensor, the MLX92235 provides precise, contactless feedback across a wide range of magnetic functions, including single-pole/omnipole or latching switch implementations. The MLX92235's versatility, compact size, and efficiency make it a valuable asset for automotive designers, where its feedback can be leveraged to develop intelligent vehicle features, such as automatically activating ambient lighting when a door or sun visor is opened.

“With the new MLX92235, we have achieved contactless Hall effect reliability and accuracy in a low-power design to replace all mechanical switches in a car,” said Minko Daskalov, product line manager at Melexis. “It will help automotive engineers add intelligence to a wide range of automotive switch and interlock functions, ultimately benefiting the end user.”.
