With the rise in cyberattacks on critical connected infrastructure, security can no longer be an afterthought in system design. In a recent survey conducted by Electronic Design of 2,200 electronics engineers, 60% of respondents said that security in their products is very important, and 96% believe that security will be equally or even more important for their products (Reference 1). Designed to meet Common Criteria EAL4+ requirements, the MAXQ1061 enables engineers to quickly design security into their products and protect network endpoints.

The MAXQ1061 integrates a comprehensive cryptographic toolkit, providing full support for a wide range of security needs, from key generation and storage to digital signatures and encryption, including SSL/TLS/DTLS. It also supports secure boot for most host processors. To withstand harsh industrial environments, the MAXQ1061 operates across a temperature range of -40°C to +109°C, the widest compared to similar products, and is available in TSSOP-14.

The MAXQ1061 incorporates 32 KB of user-programmable secure EEPROM for storing certificates, public keys, private and secret keys, and arbitrary user data. The EEPROM is managed through a flexible file system that allows for the application of custom security policies. Its cryptographic algorithms include ECC (up to NIST P-521), ECDSA signature generation and verification, SHA-2 secure hashing (up to SHA-512), AES-128/-256 with support for ECB, CBC, and CCM, and MAC. The MAXQ1061 also provides a standalone hardware AES engine over SPI, supporting AES-GCM and AES-ECB modes, which can be used to offload a host processor for high-speed encryption.

Key Advantages
• Comprehensive Security: Includes TLS/SSL host stack and full software support, as well as certificate distribution and management; easy to design strong protection in systems
• Turnkey: No firmware development required; accelerates time to market
• Industrial Temperature: -40°C to +109°C; the only cryptographic controller with this wide range

"The MAXQ1061 provides a trusted hardware root; its comprehensive set of cryptographic features meets the key security requirements of tomorrow's embedded systems," says Christophe Tremlet, Executive Business Manager for Embedded Security at Maxim Integrated. "With the MAXQ1061, our customers have a trusted device that not only ensures system integrity and authenticity but also secure communications.".

"The MAXQ1061 provides ideal hardware security to complement our software solution for the Floodgate Defender Appliance™, enabling customers to easily and cost-effectively secure their legacy equipment," said Ernie Rudolph, Executive Vice President of Icon Labs.
