The Allegro A5950 is capable of controlling peak output currents up to ±3 A and operating voltages up to 40 V. This new device is targeted at the automotive market with end applications including display deployment, transmission shifting, door closing, and motor thermal management. It is also targeted at the commercial market for driving brushed DC motors for ATMs, robotic vacuum cleaners, printers, copiers, and ticketing and vending applications.
Input terminals are provided for use in controlling the speed, direction, and torque of DC motors with externally applied PWM control signals. An internal synchronous rectification control circuit is provided to reduce power dissipation during PWM operation, and low standby power consumption is included to improve efficiency. Internal circuit protection includes overcurrent protection, motor driver short-circuit protection (to ground or power supply), thermal shutdown with hysteresis, VBB undervoltage monitoring, and current-crossover protection. Diagnostic features include an analog output that can be used to monitor current through the external sense resistor and a drain-fault open output.
The A5950 is supplied in a low-profile 4 mm × 4 mm package, a 16-pin QFN (suffix "EU") with a "wettable" edge option (suffix "-J") or a 16-lead eTSSOP (suffix "LP"), both with an exposed power tab for improved thermal performance.
