The MAX25405 detects greater proximity and doubles the detection range to 40 cm compared to previous generations, all in a quarter the size and at a cost 10 times lower than time-of-flight (ToF) camera-based systems in automotive, industrial, and consumer applications. These improvements offer an alternative to voice communications, allowing drivers to focus on the road.

Along with integrated optics and a 6 x 10 infrared sensor array, the new generation MAX25405 now includes a glass lens that increases sensitivity and improves the signal-to-noise ratio. This enhanced performance doubles the proximity and range of sensing applications beyond the driver, enabling gesture-activated entertainment displays for the front passenger and rear-seat passengers, for example. The MAX25405 boasts a high level of integration compared to competing Time-of-Flight (ToF) solutions, which require three chips and a complex microprocessor. The MAX25405's small 20-pin package, measuring 4 mm x 4 mm x 1.35 mm and featuring four discrete LEDs, is up to 75% smaller than ToF camera-based solutions.
