ftdipr27evewebIt is based on an object-oriented technique that generates line-by-line images with a resolution of 1/16th of a pixel, thus eliminating the overhead of traditional frame buffer memory. Thanks to its support for 4-wire resistive touch sensing with built-in intelligent touch detection and an embedded audio processor that enables MIDI-like sounds along with pulse code modulation (PCM) for audio playback, the controller's functionality sets a new industry standard. The combination of visualization, audio, and touch sensing in a single-chip solution allows engineers to create graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that offer exceptional user experiences.

The object-oriented technique means that objects such as images, fonts, and audio elements can be easily implemented and manipulated via a low-pin SPI or I2C interface. To obtain the desired GUI, the engineer initializes the object memory (up to 256 KB) and controls the specified objects and their attributes by constructing and interacting with a list buffer of a small display. As a result, even low-end (8-bit) microcontrollers can be used as the main processor if desired. Up to 2,000 objects can be controlled in an 8 KB display list. By eliminating the need for a frame buffer memory and a high-end microcontroller, along with integrating touch and audio functionality into a small 48LD package, substantial savings in system cost are achieved.

The FT800Q is capable of supporting 24-bit (true color) on an 18-bit interface. It comes pre-loaded with a convenient set of fonts and sounds in its ROM to further facilitate the completion of the development process as quickly and easily as possible. Anti-aliasing mechanisms improve the displayed image when generating complex lines and shapes or when signing on resistive touchscreens. Built-in widgets facilitate the implementation of complex objects (such as analog clocks) and ensure a high-quality image.

The low-power FT800 draws only 35 mA (typical) in active mode and 25 µA in sleep mode. Its operating temperature range is -40 °C to 85 °C, and it is supplied in a compact 7 mm x 7 mm x 0.9 mm VQFN package with 48 pins.
