Offering the best features for MEMS sensor tilt measurements, the SCA3300 series has a nonlinearity of 0.1% and a typical noise density of 37 µg/√Hz. The sensor's mechanical damping enables extremely high-performance measurements in abrasive and vibrating environments.

This compact sensor, encapsulated in a pre-molded bimetallic lead SMD housing, operates on a 3.3 VDC power supply and consumes only 1 mA during normal operation, making it suitable for battery-powered applications. In its low-power mode, consumption drops to 0.5 mA. Communication with the host application is via an industry-standard SPI interface.

The SCA3300 is a highly reliable 3D MEMS sensor that meets the AEC-Q100 automotive quality standard. The sensor also features extensive fail-safe functions and diagnostic indicators. These include monitoring of an internal reference signal, testing techniques to verify communication, and signal saturation/range monitoring. A unique diagnostic feature of the Murata 3-axis accelerometer is its continuous-run self-test. This patented continuous-run self-test verifies the correct operation of the entire signal chain, from the MEMS sensor's motion to the signal conditioning circuit, in every measurement cycle.

The operating temperature range is -40 degrees C to +125 degrees C.

Target applications for the SCA3300 include leveling and alignment systems, inertial measurement units for heavy machinery, navigation systems, AGVs, and construction and surveying tools. There is also a wide range of future applications in high-precision automotive inertial sensing, such as in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and intelligent transmission control, which this sensor can enable. Tilt detection in weighing scales is another application.

To aid the product design process, an evaluation board for the SCA3300 is available that incorporates a Java-based GUI for visualizing sensor output, data logging, and data rate calculations.
