Not only does it save space and have a more robust design, but it also reduces PCB assembly costs.
The new GX 8 package addresses the ongoing trend in electronic systems toward increasingly smaller packages, lower power consumption, and lower system costs. Previously, NXP released 5- and 6-pin functions in the GX package. Now, with the availability of the 8-pin package, most Mini Logic functions are available, making it easier for design and production engineers to respond to market demands.
Similarly, design cycle times are decreasing, so it's not always possible to include all the required features in a single-chip solution. NXP logic devices are used to provide the interface between different ASICs, and with this new package, most AXP, AUP, and LVC functions are now available in a GX package, meeting designers' needs for the broadest spectrum of standard logic functions in the smallest possible package.
Because its assembly does not require "step-down", it has no assembly restrictions, which reduces manufacturing costs.
Availability
The features in the GX 8 are already available as a sample and are scheduled to go into mass production in the fourth quarter of 2016.
